SMALL TALK

Designer Michael Barnaart van Bergen has been announced as Fashion Ambassador for The Hague. In honour of his brand new ambassadorship, Barnaart van Bergen has specially designed the 'Robe de la Résidente' as an ode to the city. Featuring an old map of the city centre, the knitted dress is available in two colour combinations: black & white and navy & fuchsia.

Congratulations to Jair Straschnow who has won the Furniture Award in The Brit Insurance Design Awards 2010. Straschnow's Grassworks collection comprises flat-pack furniture made from bamboo-plywood. The seven winning designs will now compete for the overall Brit Insurance Design of the Year 2010, to be announced at the Awards Ceremony at the Design Museum London on 16 March. The winning entries, along with all the shortlisted designs, are on show at the Design Museum until 6 June.

In other awards news, Frédérik Ruys has been announced as the winner of the Infographics prize 2009. Ruys' infographic entitled 'How the credit crisis infected the stock exchange' (Het Financieele Dagblad) was praised by the jury for its clarity of communication and organization of information. In its fifth edition, the award is an initiative of the BNO and Dutch Association of Journalists. The prize comprises an award of 2500EUR.
